As a ceasefire takes effect in Gaza, it’s time to take urgent steps toward recovery and healing. Only now will Gaza’s community be able to begin burying their loved ones, return to the remains of their homes and start the arduous process of restoration. We are called to accompany the people of Gaza and use our resources to support the tremendous efforts that will be needed. This is only the beginning of healing and recovery, and this period will prove critical to the lives of those who have survived 15 months of violence and displacement.
Lutheran Disaster Response continues to work with partners in the Holy Land to provide:
- Immediate needs for those displaced by the war throughout the region, including shelter, food and water, clothing, basic necessities and household supplies.
- Medical supplies for hospitals and clinics.
- Accommodation and food for hospital staff so they can continue working, and for patients and families who are unable to travel for treatment.
- Mental health support and trauma healing interventions.
- Public health services.
- Emergency education support, which enables schools to continue operating even when students’ families cannot pay school fees and provides school meals at a time of high food insecurity.
- Support for people living with intellectual disabilities, including food and livelihood support.
As this ceasefire begins and as our partners reestablish work in Gaza, our church stands ready to continue our response.
