Accompaniment is walking together, using each person’s gifts for mutual benefit. In the CET program U.S. teachers act as role models, improving the students’ confidence and language abilities and enhancing the schools’ prestige; schools provide community, salary, housing, and teaching support; students and European teachers offer cultural exchange and encouragement. Together, the result is greater than any one part.
Teachers are invited by the local Lutheran church, the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession. Schools appreciate being able to trust our teachers and know that they can be role models.
The church is one body with many members. We all have different gifts and are called to serve in different ways.
“Not everyone is called to the ministry and I’m glad to have the opportunity to serve the church using skills that I actually have.”
—Nick Sveholm, CET since 2017
