CHICAGO — ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton has issued a video message in response to false allegations made by Elon Musk about illegal payments made to Lutheran organizations. Musk’s comments on X(formerly Twitter) were in response to “General Mike Flynn” (handle on X), who inferred that Lutheran organizations such as Global Refuge (formerly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service) and Lutheran Services in America receive way too much federal grant money with no transparency regarding its use.
In her video, Eaton said, “Despite misinformation and baseless doubt cast today on funding that supports Lutheran organizations across our country, the ELCA remains steadfast in our commitment and work with our many Lutheran partners and expressions of our church.”
