In a message to the church, ELCA Presiding Bishop Eaton says that “despite misinformation and baseless doubt cast today on funding that supports Lutheran organizations across our country, the ELCA remains steadfast in our commitment and work with our many Lutheran partners.”

ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton released a pastoral message on recent executive orders which says, in part, "As a church, we are called to speak up when the government distorts or denies the image of God in each person by endangering access to protection, peace and daily bread. Where harm or inequity occur, we are called by God to respond with love and advocacy."

Today, recent immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers and displaced people are members of our congregations, communities and leadership. The presence of newcomers heightens our awareness of issues of relevance to the church so we can take part in faithful deliberation on public policies, like the ones that have come out in recent days.

As a ceasefire takes effect in Gaza, it’s time to take urgent steps toward recovery. This is only the beginning of healing, and this period will prove critical to the lives of those who have survived 15 months of violence and displacement.
