Lutheran Ethicists' Gathering

Register now for 'Security and Vulnerability in the Light of Global Realities: Living in the Shadow of Empire," this year's Lutheran Ethicists' Gathering.  (Registration ends December 30, 2014.) This event of the ELCA's Theological Discernment Team (January 6 & 7, 2015 at the Fairmont Royal York, Toronto, Canada) annually brings together ethically attentive Christians whether ethicists, pastors, chaplains, teachers, or lay people.  This year's program features Canadian perspectives on security and vulnerability.

On Wednesday evening participants will discuss "Laudato Si (On Care for Our Common Home)," Pope Francis' recent encyclical.  Thursday's presenters include The Right Rev. Mark MacDonald: the National Indigenous Bishop in the Anglican Church of Canada, Mr. Ernie Regehr: co-founder of Project Ploughshares, Mr. John Dillon: Coordinator of the Ecology Economy Program at Kairos Canada, and finally The Hon Chrystia Freeland (Invited).  To frame the question within Lutheran categories of the Two Governances (or, more generally, church and state), what is the responsibility of the church to lead and give witness to these concerns in the public discourse of participatory democracy in a global context?  To register or for further information, click here: https://community.elca.org/LEG2016Registration. Some scholarship funds are available to help young scholars attend.
