In 2009, the Churchwide Assembly authorized the development of a social statement on women and justice. The ELCA Task Force on Women and Justice: One in Christ is now at work, charged with the responsibility to lead this process. The 19 ELCA members on the task force represent diverse walks of life, perspectives, gender, geography, ethnicity and skills that provide a diversity of thoughtful voices. The range of issues the task force will explore remains open-ended since there are many issues that affect individuals, congregations, communities and society. To learn more about who is on the task force, download their bios here.
During this phase of the process, the task force is encouraging groups to use the “Faith, Sexism, Justice: Conversations toward a Social Statement” study. Engage in conversation around the study's seven modules and submit your responses and feedback online by August 31, 2017. Response forms can be found online. In addition to the response forms, additional feedback may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have questions about using the study in your area, email Women and Justice. The task force recognizes the importance of adequate time to consider the many issues and enable broad participation in the conversation across the church. The task force has also developed and approved study resources for leading discussion and furthering education on gender issues. To explore study resources the task force has developed or suggests click here.
