The ELCA Malaria Campaign wants you!  As a part of the summer internship program at the ELCA Churchwide Organization, the ELCA Malaria Campaign is hiring a summer intern.  Our intern will work closely with the two ELCA World Hunger interns, forming a cohort for learning and skill-building.  For more information or to apply, check out the ELCA Jobs Board here

POSITION SUMMARY:  The three ELCA World Hunger/Malaria interns will have the opportunity to contribute to the significant work and mission of ELCA World Hunger (www.elca.org/hunger) and the ELCA Malaria Campaign (www.elca.org/malaria). Functioning as a cohort, the three interns will work closely with the World Hunger and Malaria teams and other experienced non-profit professionals, building and exploring skills related to non-profit work, the ELCA and the anti-poverty community. There will also be opportunities to enhance and employ communication skills by contributing to a number of additional World Hunger/Malaria/Disaster-related projects and events.

QUALIFICATIONS: Strong written and verbal communication skills in one-on-one and group settings; ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects; enthusiasm for the ministry of the ELCA; understanding of and desire to deepen knowledge of the root causes of poverty, hunger and disease. Knowledge and experience in marketing, education, religion, fundraising or non-profit work a plus. Desired: Basic knowledge of the ELCA structure and the work of ELCA World Hunger and the ELCA Malaria Campaign. Willingness to travel, if needed.

In addition to these team activities, each intern will have a specific focus area:

  1. ELCA World Hunger Education: Coordinate travel and logistics for events; assist with editing of educational resources; prepare brief written posts for World Hunger blog and social media pages; may include some research support.
  2. ELCA World Hunger Fundraising: Carry out specific donor-relations activities for individual and congregational donors by mail and phone and at events to thank, survey and inform donors about how their gifts have been used to carry out mission and ministry; inform and recruit certain prospects for the Monthly Partners program; and participate in key fundraising activities of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship as part of the Campaign for the ELCA.
  3. ELCA Malaria Campaign: Work with volunteers and congregations to interpret the work of the ELCA Malaria Campaign through blog posts and storytelling; Connect with donors to thank them for their support and let them know the impact of their gifts; and contribute to campaign-related marketing resources including the compilation of a malaria-related photo gallery.
